Comiket 75

The 75th Comiket event took place at Tokyo Big Sight from 28-30 December 2008. I attended the event for a short three hours in the afternoon on the last day of the event before heading off to Akihabara. It's not my kind of event and I only went there to preorder the Volks Nanoha Strikers figures for my customers and also to take pictures of the upcoming stuff from Volks, Good Smile, Max Factory, and Native. Here's my brief photo coverage of the event.

The march up stairway to cosplay heaven a.k.a. rooftop of Tokyo Big Sight.

Cosplay area on the rooftop of Tokyo Big Sight.

Kamen Rider cosplayers. From left to right, it's Blade, Kiva, Kaixa, and Kuuga. Sorry, I didn't manage to take any pics of them from the front. ^^;

Volks 1/7 Nanoha Takamachi coming in May 2009 - more info

Volks 1/7 Hayate Yagami coming in Junne 2009 - more info

Volks 1/7 Fate T Harlaown out in July 2009 - more info. I've received a ton of preorder requests for this one. I must admit, she's definitely the best one of the three.

Volks 1/7 Vivio coming in July 2009 - more info. Bonus figure for those who preordered the set of three Nanoha StrikerS figures. Those who preordered the set through me will get Vivio without any additional charge.

Upcoming resin kits from Volks. More pics in my flickr gallery here.

Volks 1/144 Linebarrel Volks ver. PVC action figure due out in January 2009 and second bacth out in February - more info. Those who want one can preorder it through me. Email me for more details.

Volks 1/144 Linebarrel mode B revealed but no price or release date yet. Price should probably be the same as the regular version at 6,825 yen or so.

Native, Good Smile, Max Factory, and Volks booths were right next to each other.

GSC 1/8 Akiha Shishido from Sora o Kakeru Shoujo - July 2009 release. Hmm ... wonder if the show will be any good. Figure looks nice though.

GSC 1/4 Nanoha Takamachi - Spring 2009 release. No price yet but man she's huge!

GSC 1/8 Moka Akashiya from Rosario + Vampire - June 2009 release.

GSC 1/8 Kyouka Midarezaki & Puchi Kyouka from Kyouran Kazoku Nikki - May 2009 release. Show seems to be very popular. Is it worth watching? I've yet to watch a single clip from the show.

GSC 1/7 Saber Lily - June release. Work in progress and sculpt pending approval. Although they had a sign that read 'no photo' next to it, plenty of people had already taken tons of pics and posted it on the net since day one of the event. So I guess one more wouldn't hurt ... ^^

Max Factory Figma Haruhi & Mikuru in cheer girl outfits. Both due out in March 2009 for 2,500 yen each. I don't see no 'no photo' sign anywhere ...

GSC Nendoroid Petit Lucky Star New Year's Greetings Capsule ver. - more info. The most difficult Nendoroid figures to obtain thus far. It is physically difficult because one would have to travel all the way to Washinomiya and line up for hours to get 10 tries at the gashapon machine. You'll also need lots of luck because they're all random and completing the set would be quite difficult particularly getting all eight different paper fortunes.

GSC Nendoroid Nozomu Itoshiki from Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei - March 2009 release.

Phat Company Nendoroid Francesca Lucchini from Strike Witches - No price or release date announced yet.

Phat Company Nendoroid Raspberyl from Disgaea 3 - due out in May 2009.

GSC Nendoroid Sebastian Michaelis from Kuroshitsuji - coming in Summer 2009.

GSC Nendoroid Priecia from Prism Ark - coming in June 2009.

GSC Nendoroid Nagi from Kannagi - out in May 2009. Still pending approval from licensor. One of the 'no photo' figures but since there's already plenty online ... here's one more. ^^

GSC Nendoroid Kureha from Shining Wind - May 2009 release.

GSC Nendoroid Miku Miku Kagami from Lucky Star OVA - coming in May 2009. I got most of the Miku figures and defintely looking forward to adding this one to my collection!

Nendoroid Petit Yuki Nagato Haruhi-chan ver. - bonus figure that will come with vol. 3 of Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuutsu manga due out in 9 July 2009. Book and figure set priced at 1,680 yen including tax.

Native's fourth PVC release is Kotone Ousaka based on Tony Taka's illustration. Native will begin taking preorders for the item through their official website in January and figure is due out in June 2009. No price announced at this time. Check back on my blog for details and contact me to preorder the figure.

Native 1/6 M-ko Kousoku due out in January 2009 and retails for 12,000 yen. Native website exclusive. Preorders for the figure had long closed. Unfortunately, I missed out on preordering the figure.

Native 1/7 Nozomi Watase wine red version due out in April 2009 - more info. I'm currently taking preorders for this piece.

Native had a teaser sign for their upcoming figures. More info and pictures should be announced soon.

Two cuties in wedding dresses. Nice~!

Guys sitting around the booth playing rock paper scissors with the voice actresses to win prizes.

Now here are some shots of the cosplayers. I didn't take many since they closed the event area shortly after I got there. I counted roughly two dozen Vocaloid cosplayers dressed up as Miku, Rin, and Len.

Double Chun-Lis. Would be even better if they're twins!

No idea which character she's cosplaying but she looks cute.

Nice Asuka cosplay. Based on Kengou Yakumo's illustration and also the figure.

Not sure which characters from what anime/manga series they're cosplaying but they sure stood out from the other cosplayers!

Where can I find the manga limited edition with the Nagato petit nendoroid?

Tokyo Hunter said...

It should be available for preorder through all major Japanese hobby online stores like HobbyLink Japan soon.

Joseph, Thanks for great posting as always.

I agree with you on Miku-Cosplay Kagami is definitely the cutest of the bunch.

MOE~

You're most welcome! Good to hear that people enjoy reading my postings. Wish I have more time to post more frequently. I'll try my best this year! Ganbarimasu!

I guess a quick fix for a Nendoroid Miku-cosplay Kagami would be to swap Nendoroid Miku's face with Nendoroid Kagami's face! I have all three versions of Nendoroid Kagami but have yet to open one though.

Love the pictures!
Happy New Year and keep up the wonderful work =]

Can't wait to preorder Kannagi Nendoroid and the Yuuki one.

Hmm, nothing new with Konami and Busou Shinki still huh? =/ Thanks for the coverage btw!

Happy new year, Joseph.

Say, is cosplay huge in Japan? Or is it something only an otaku would do (i.e. is it frowned upon in general)?

Happy New Year! Great coverage like always xDD Lol at all those forbidden photos you took! Good job~

Happy New Year!

co_onfused,
Thanks! Nendoroid Nagi is such a cutie. I might have to get one myself even though I've yet to watch the show.

Ebiru,
Nothing on Busou Shinki stuff. Konami didn't attend the event.

Johnson Huang,
Yup, cosplay is pretty big in Japan and not frowned upon at all. Not by most people anyway. It has become an acceptable trend here and even celebrities cosplay on variety shows on TV. You can see cosplayers around Akiba and Harajuku all the time including some cross dressers. ^^; More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosplay

xChewey,
Happy New Year to you, too! Glad you enjoyed my brief coverage! And erm ... forbidden photos? I know not of what you speak of ... :p Others had posted photos of them online before so I went ahead and took some *ahem* better photos for all. ^^

Happy New Year!
So what is the Yuki puchi wearing? Is it a new thing in the manga it comes with? And I wonder why they did not do the waitress and and Bunny versions of the haruhi figmas like Revoltech or what ever they're called did. The cheerleaders are still cool, I'd get Haruhi, maybe they wanted something different. I love Kagami, wonder what her other faces are. I hope you had fun there. As for the Kyouran Kazoku Nikki anime, I remeber seeing the nendoroid for it and tried watching the anime to get to know about her because I loved the nendoroid, but I stopped watching it in the middle cause I remember thinking it was boring. Maybe I'll try again.

Happy New Year TokyoHunter & everyone,

This site has been one of the drived force for me to get into the figurine world (i'm newbie).

A lot of effort has been put to get all the coverage and pictures on this blog.

So again thank you and we'll wait for another great figurine coverage news from you in future a head.

By the way, how do we know when to choose the best material for figure either it is PVC or Resin?
coz, as you told me resin figure needs care and xtra effort to get the most of it.

Is resin would be a better material for figures compare to PVC material after done all the painting?
(sorry maybe should be discuss on different topic??)

Loving the upcoming Nendoroids! Will have to get them all, especially Sebastian because I'm currently watching Kuroshitsuji and was really hoping they'd make a Nendoroid of him (the Static Arts figure is a bit too expensive for me). But they're all must haves in my eyes. ^^

Thanks so much for the photos! :D

Kudos to you for taking photos of the forbidden Moka. You just made me decide that I will take a closer look and see if I want to get her. Thanks for the coverage and photos as well dude. :)

By the way what is the next big event in Tokyo for figures now that Wonfes winter '09 has been canceled, and when will it be?

cub3k_cub3,
Thank you very much for your kind comments! I'll do my best to keep this blog updated as often as I can. I might expand into doing figure reviews as well if I have the time. Regarding resin vs PVC, if you want to build a figure yourself and have the skills to assemble and paint a resin figure, then go for resin. However, if you want instant gratification at a cheaper cost and without any paint and assembly, go for PVC.

Janet,
I'm sure we'll see a Nendoroid Ciel coming in the near future, too! ^^ Out of all the new Nendoroids announced at the show, I can't wait to get my hands on Miku Miku Kagami and Nendoroid Priecia looks to be coming along very nicely. Nendoroid Nagi is super kawaii! I don't like the show as much but love the Nendoroid version of Nagi.

Panther,
You're welcome! ;-) The next big event happening in February is Treasure Festa (http://www.treasure-festa.com/) run by Griffon Enterprise. It is an event that's similar to WF where there will be both an industry section and dealer section where all the sculptor circles will be selling their stuff. This is their first event another one will be held in April at Tokyo Big Sight and Kobe in the same month. Looks like it's gonna be as big or even bigger than Hobby Complex. Definitely an event to keep an eye on. I'll be attending the event, of course.

mutsumifruit3,
Yuki wears a pair of bunny ear protectors of some sort, or perhaps a pair of bunny earphones. Not really sure since I didn't read the manga. I guess they did the cheerleader outfit to be different from the Fraulein Revoltech versions of the Haruhi girls.

Ahha, a new event! That is great, thanks for the info. Of course I will be looking forward to your coverage too. :)

I did read rumors about a Ciel Nendo on some blogs. Very happy to hear that the butler will have a master. ^___^

Yes I definitely need to get Kagami cosplaying as Miku as well. Her expressions are priceless! XD Will have to wait patiently for preorders to open in March. =3

Yeah I think I jumped the gun a bit and checked the site when they were still adding it to the list - the page originally said preorders open in March 2009, release date in December 2008 and that the item was out of stock. XP But all looks good now. :)

I'll be receiving my Saber Lion from them soon too. ^^
